Softball League Rule Highlights Interlink Softball Leagues are played in accordance with USSA rules, with the following exceptions or modifications:
1. Homerun Limits: 2. 7 inning game or 1 hour time limit. During regular season, all games where the score is tied will be recorded as a tie. During the playoffs, games will go additional innings until one team can be declared a winner. 3. Slow pitch, under 10 foot, above 3 foot arc limit. 4. Intentional fast pitches with no arc are subject to automatic ejection of the pitcher (Discretion of the umpire). 5. Any rules not specifically stated will go by USSSA guidelines. Banned bats rules will follow USSSA guidelines also. Go to: http://www.usssa.com/sports/Home.asp?Sport=17 for rule book and list of banned bats. You can also email me with any questions. 6. Batters start with a one ball, one strike count. If a batter hits a foul ball with two strikes, the third strike does not count. If they hit a second foul ball with two strikes, they are out with three strikes. 7. In Recreational Co-ed, there is a 10 run limit per inning for the 1st 3 innings. However, this rule will be waived during playoffs. 8. Teams play with 10 players in the field, for co-ed, minimum four women and maximum six men. Positions in the field are not dictated. Must have a minimum of 8 players to start a game with at least 2 women (Men's/Women's League - 8 players). 9. If a team has less than 4 women to show up for co-ed, a female(s) must bat twice in the batting order to get the batting ratio acceptable. Opposing captain has choice who will bat twice (If a team only has 2 women, both women will bat twice). Men may not bat twice. 10.
There are no automatic outs if you have less than 10 in the lineup in
men/women or co-ed. There must always be at least 4 female batting spots
in the lineup for co-ed. In men/women, if a team show up with less than
10, there is no automatic out. 11. In men/women leagues, a team may bat as many players as possible. In co-ed, no more than two guys can bat in a row. If a co-ed team has more than ten batters, there must be one girl added for up to every 2 guys. Legal
Batting combinations for co-ed: Note: A female can bat twice in order to get the proper batting ratio. For instance, you have 7 or 8 guys and 4 females, a female can bat twice so everyone can bat. 12. In co-ed, if a player shows up late, the player either enters at the end of the lineup (Must apply with batter ratio rules) or in the next turn where a female bats twice if applicable. Men/Women leagues, the player is inserted at the end of the lineup if there are less than 10 batters. Also, if you start a game short-handed, the most batters you can have in a lineup are 10, even when inserting late arriving players. 13. For a player to be fielding, they must be in the batting order. You can rotate positions in and out every inning, just as long as the player is in the batting order. 14. If a runner needs to be replaced due to injury or batting twice, the opposing team can choose the courtesy runner. The courtesy runner has to be the same gender and not one of the next 2 batters. Courtesy runners are allowed only due to injury (Discretion of the umpire). 15. In co-ed, if a male is walked with 2 outs with a female on deck, the male gets 2 bases and the female following him in the batting order gets an option to take first or to bat. Also, if 2 men in a row are walked to get to a female, the second male gets 2 bases and the female has the option of hitting or walking. Otherwise, only one base is allowed for walks. 16. All finalized rosters are due by the start of the 5th game. You can pick up substitute players throughout the regular season, but only players on your rosters are eligible to play during playoffs.*Note: Super Competitive Men's and Competitive Women's league are only allowed to use roster players in all games. 17. Protests are to be held on the field of play during or before your game, not after your game is over. Protests are to be made to your umpire. If your umpire cannot make a decision on the protest, the field supervisor or league director will make a decision. 18. There are 2 bases on first base at some fields. A white bag in fair territory and an orange bag in foul territory. If there is a play at first, the fielder needs to touch the white bag and the runner touches the orange bag. When rounding first, the runner must touch the white bag. The orange bag is only there for a ground ball play at first to avoid collisions at first. Ask the umpire before the game when in doubt. 19. Recreational league teams can have no more than 3 players from a roster at a higher level. 20. The purpose of the league is to have fun. If a player uses offensive language, yells at other players or officials or behaves in an unsportsmanlike like manner, he/she may be ejected. An ejection is an automatic one game suspension. Fighting is an automatic ejection from the league. Appeals can be made to the league director for review. Rainout
